Valerie S. Joaquin, LMFT | Asian American Therapist San Francisco
Hi! I’m Valerie and I’m an Asian American Therapist in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I was born and raised in the Bay Area and am a child of immigrants. I became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist because I know how hard it is to move forward in life when you’re feeling all the feels but don’t know how to deal with them. I decided to earn my Master’s Degree in Holistic Counseling Psychology because I’ve seen how stuck people get when they weren’t taught the language and tools to make sense of their emotional experiences. My passion to help others comes from learning how to navigate through my own struggles of having immigrants parents. Whether my clients’ challenges stem from their cultural upbringing or growing up within a larger society that places less value on taking care of one’s mental health, I’m here to guide them through their personal journeys.
I recognize that each person’s way of processing their feelings is unique and use a holistic approach to understand and work with my clients. This means I seek to help my clients consider the relationship between their mind, body, and spirit with the intention to strengthen their own personal identity in order to live a more meaningful life. People who know me describe me as creative, patient, and compassionate. I am open-minded, curious, and thoughtful.
It is my belief that one's personal growth and healing can be accessed through feeling heard in a trusting therapeutic relationship, listening to one's body, and being in touch with one's unique voice through expressive arts.
